When it comes to geometric designs, the first thing that comes to mind is, of course, simplicity. It feels like it is one of the most primitive and easiest ways to create a design.

All you need to do is to mix and match lines and shapes. However, things are not always what they seem. And artworks by Kazimir Malevich, a pioneer in abstract art, are clear proof of that.

Geometric art is a combination of varied-sized shapes, weights, and colors. Intricacy accompanies each and every artwork. Yes, at some point, they are simple – but also complex. And this unique combination is intriguing. It appeals to us, lures us in, and sparks our interest.

Today, we share a collection of stunning business cards that put geometry at the center of their design.

Granatalm — Heart on the Mountain

This example was created by a skilled Austria-based design team for a hotel. It looks incredible. They’ve used squares, rhombuses, and zigzags to weave this plaid-like pattern. The design of these business cards and other elements of the brand identity feel hospitable, inviting, and modern.

Granatalm — Heart on the mountain

Shine Bright! Business Card

This is another excellent example. You can easily distinguish two types of patterns. The first one is based on circles, whereas the second one is populated with spots. It naturally grabs the attention and directs it towards the tiny solid circle in the upper right corner.

Reality Lab London Business Card

Much like the very first example in our collection, this project by Ramin Nasibov is marked by geometric patterns with a high density of details. The author has experimented with various shapes – starting with lines and ending with hexagons – thereby coming up with a fantastic range of concepts that are tied together into one idea.

Cultural Centre in Lublin Branding

The concept instantly catches the eye with its subtle yet intricate design. There is nothing fancy, yet still, it manages to draw our attention as well as unobtrusively establish an aura of creativity.

Taiheiyo Kensha Branding Project

The combination of colors creates a slight anaglyph effect that makes things visually interesting in this business card. Simple geometric shapes such as triangles and polygons stand behind the project’s aesthetics. Without a doubt, it has marvelous authenticity and charm.

Second Choice Business Card

This business card demonstrates that all you need is a primitive shape and one color to make things look interesting. From the get-go, it becomes evident that this project has something to do with fashion. The idea is brilliant. It is simple yet ingenious.

dots&dash Business Card

If you feel like a pastel or minimal color scheme is not for you, you can always try to use some bright ones, much like this business card. The coloring is vibrant, yet it does not overpower the design. Bold geometric shapes and bright colors make this artwork so unique.

dots&dash geometric business card example inspirational

Konsou Business Card

If the previous example is too much and you prefer to stick to the time-proven choices, like a traditional black-and-white scheme, you should take a look at this business card. A music platform lies at the heart of this project, so it is not surprising that the design feels energetic and dynamic – even despite such a monochromatic environment. Shapes give it energy.

Konsou geometric business card example inspirational

Unconventional Business Cards

This unconventional business card is an experiment created by Huan Nguye. He has taken the charm of the geometric world to the next level, making the business card interactive. Bearing in mind the rule that good design should be invisible and only revealed when needed, he has managed to create a masterpiece. Explore his presentation over at Behance for further information.

Unconventional Business Cards geometric business card example inspirational

A+PRACOWNIA Business Card

This example will delight you with its marvelous minimalistic approach. There is lots of fresh air, the colors are neutral, and the shapes are primitive. However, with all that, the business card, as well as the other brand identity pieces, look interesting, and they go perfectly well with the architectural theme.

A+PRACOWNIA Architect geometric business card example inspirational

Costa-Perini Letterpress Business Card

This business card example is a well-thought-out combination of simple geometric shapes – starting with straight lines and ending with curved brackets. However, it has a certain art deco quality that looks splendid thanks to the beautifully embossed details. It is an apotheosis of geometric designs.

Costa-Perini Letterpress geometric business card example inspirational geometric business card example inspirational

Defying Expectations

It may seem at first sight that designs where geometry runs the show are destined to be dull, primitive, and insipid. However, by no means do they concede to other stylistic solutions. They can be:

  • Extravagant like Shine Bright.
  • Bright and bold like dots&dash.
  • Suthentic like Granatalm.
  • Ultra-modern like Taiheiyo Kensha Branding.
  • Traditional like A+PRACOWNIA.
  • and even highly sophisticated like Costa-Perini Letterpress.

This direction is multifaceted and gives you lots of opportunities to show the world your creativity.

Unlike many other products that are instantly reached for brand recognition, most people don’t take enough of an interest in wine to have a particular brand they go back to time after time.

That’s why wine label design is one of the most important marketing tools wine manufacturers have available to them. From the classic, elegant designs to those that bring some humor to a sometimes snooty industry, wine labels are there to catch our attention.

Wine labels convey many things: flavor, variety, even the situation that a particular bottle is suited for. Most importantly, they convey a mood designed to grab the target market of the winemaker, whether we’re talking about younger party-goers who like funky labels or wine connoisseurs who prefer a traditional label.

With so many types of wines from so many regions, there’s a huge amount of market competition. Winemakers rely on label and brand design to help them step up their sales more than ever before. Check out some of the best examples of innovative wine label design.

If it has been a while since you last updated your resume, it’s worth taking the time to give it a thorough review and facelift. A well-crafted resume can make a significant impact on potential employers and help you stand out from the competition. However, finding the right balance between form and function while showcasing your design skills can be challenging.

Before diving back into your resume, take some time to browse through examples from other designers for inspiration. Seeing how others have effectively combined design and content can help spark new ideas and approaches for your own resume.

Remember, the most critical function of a resume is to provide potential employers with a clear and concise summary of your experience, skills, and qualifications. While design can make your resume stand out, it’s important to prioritize clarity and readability over flashy or overly complex design elements.

Instead of focusing solely on design acrobatics, consider how you can use design elements to enhance the readability and organization of your content. This might mean using clear headings and bullet points, selecting a font that is easy to read, and creating a logical layout that guides the reader through your experience and skills.

Updating your resume is an important task that can significantly impact your job search. By seeking inspiration from other designers, prioritizing clarity and readability, and strategically using design elements, you can create a resume that effectively showcases your skills and qualifications while demonstrating your design prowess.

]]>
While some think that business cards will become obsolete in a “paperless” world, the fact remains that every brand identity can’t do without them. It is an integral part of every presentation toolkit.

And let’s be honest, we still love traditional paper-based items. Smart, crafty business cards are one of them.

Business cards are one of those mediums that skillfully ignore the limitations imposed by their relatively small size. Despite occupying only 7 square inches, they can contain not only vital contact information, but also have space for lavish and intricate designs. From primitive minimalistic ideas to bright skeuomorphic ones, you can stumble upon just about anything.

However, what has caught our attention recently is abstract art. As a rule, the design is centered around the company, featuring specific things related to the business. And abstract art is, well, abstract. There are no clear messages inside. You need to dive deeper to find them.

Today, we showcase a dozen beautiful business cards with abstract art for your design inspiration.

Bar à Phô Business Card by Jenny Lelong

As you may have noticed, the design of “Bar a Pho” has a subtle eastern charm. The reason is simple – it was crafted for a Vietnamese restaurant.

The abstract illustrations are not just random. They are used to portray the main dish of the establishment – the soup Pho. As a result, the business card looks amazing and conveys the right message.

Bar à Phô by Jenny Lelong

Personal Identity by Manon Louart

These business cards are marked by beautiful color combinations and bizarre yet appealing geometric shapes.

The natural motifs can be seen in all the details, starting from the background and ending with the foreground elements. It looks fresh, crisp, and elegant.

Personal Identity by Manon Louart

Personal Identity by Princess Nicole Castañeda

Much like in the previous example, this business card gets its beauty from ultra-thin lines that form curves and sleek shapes. The line art is gorgeous here, and it effortlessly conveys the feminine aura of the owner.

Personal Identity by Princess Nicole Castañeda

Letterpress & Calligraphy Business Cards by Aline Kaori

Aline Kaori has done a great job of combining two of the most traditional of typography styles: letterpress and calligraphy. The result is magnificent. The business card looks exquisite, sophisticated, and appealing.

Letterpress & Calligraphy Business Cards by Aline Kaori

Perch Business Card by Hue Studio

This business card oozes an art deco feel. A beautiful embossed effect with a gorgeous, almost royal green color increasingly enhances the overall impact. It looks good, even in white. Though, in this color option, it feels ordinary.

Perch by Hue Studio

Illustrated Business Card by Daniela Gonçalves

The front side of this business card strikes you as an example that includes nothing but a scribble. However, you can actually make out facial features here. The illustration is bizarre, yet in a good way, adding a touch of individuality to the project.

PERSONAL BRAND, 2018 by Daniela Gonçalves

Personal Business Cards by Marina Cardoso

This business card design breaks away from digital tools and favors old-timey instruments such as markers. They help instill a sense of warmth into the project and add an authentic appeal. Each card has its own unique art.

Personal Business Cards by Marina Cardoso

Materia Branding by Paprika

This is where minimalism meets line art. The result is intriguing. The card has a relatively neutral design. Still, all those typography-inspired artworks that mark the front side give their own zest, and it is vivid proof that sometimes less is more.

Materia Branding by Paprika

Personal Business Card Design by Belén Ferreño

Let’s move from a minimalistic, monochrome line style to some splashes of color and vibrant, glossy surfaces. This business card stands in stark contrast to the previous example. It is bright, intense, and flashy.

Personal Business Card Design by Belén Ferreño

Reef Tour Agency by EVNE Developers

This is another bright solution in our collection. Although it does not have a chaotic explosion of tones and hues, the coloring here is gorgeous.

Guided by the company’s name, the designers at EVNE Developers have managed to convey its essence by coming up with this outstanding reef-inspired composition.

Reef Tour agency by EVNE Developers

Personal Branding by Ronnie Alley Design

While all of the previous examples made sense in some way or another, this one gives us a lot to think about. The designs are grotesque. This fantastic digital abstract art exudes modernism and a techno charm on all fronts.

Personal Branding by Ronnie Alley Design

PUF! Festival Brand Identity

This business card was created for a small local festival based in Pistoia, a city famous for the production of ornamental plants. So, it is no surprise that the design is filled with natural motifs. It is bright, energetic, and simply outstanding.

PUF! Festival - Brand Identity

A Different View

Abstract art always draws attention. It makes us think and encourages us to find hidden messages. It bears a particular gamut of emotions, to say nothing of its powerful creative atmosphere.

In the case of business cards, this only plays into its hands. When you see something extravagant like the design of the card by Ronnie Alley Design, refined like Manon Louart’s card, or crafty and authentic like the card by Aline Kaori, it always makes you stop in your tracks.

And that is what we should all try to achieve with our business cards.

The post The Beauty of Bright Colors & Geometrical Shapes in Brand Identity appeared first on Speckyboy Design Magazine.

]]>
Bright visual identities, as well as those featuring clever geometric compositions, are popping up everywhere. While these two trends can stand independently and offer designers a vast scope of opportunities, they can make an even more significant impact when used together.

This combination is not simply a colorful scheme used in tandem with geometry, but a true symbiosis where splashes of color are enclosed within various geometric frames.

These designs can interact with each other or work separately, but together they create unique abstract scenery that adorns the backgrounds of various elements of brand identity, from business cards to packaging.

Let’s look at some exciting projects that exemplify this combined trend.

Personal Branding by Allyssa Ellis

Let’s kick off our collection with a successful personal branding campaign: Allyssa Ellis’ very own brand. The purpose of this branding was to showcase her lively, playful, and magnetic personality to her target audience, and she certainly hit the mark.

From the get-go, the brand identity exudes a positive vibe that captivates and draws you in. The sleek and graceful shapes of the design contribute to an overall elegant feel, while the pastel color palette further enhances the feminine atmosphere. Overall, the project brilliantly encapsulates Allyssa’s unique creative perspective and character.

Personal Branding by Allyssa Ellis

Floating Award, Campaign & Identity for Young Guns 16

Prepare to be amazed by this design’s exuberant personality! Despite the coordinated chaos of explosive, vibrant hues, it feels like an artistic outburst that captures the essence of young creativity.

It’s no surprise that the project boasts such a bold and slightly unconventional appearance, as it aims to represent young creatives. Note how the colors overlap the letters, blurring the boundary between foreground and background, resulting in a brilliant and innovative idea.

YOUNG GUNS 16 (YG16) Floating Award

Identity & Packaging Design for Folks Patisserie

In contrast to the previous two examples that exude youthful exuberance, this brand identity project exudes a mature and sophisticated vibe.

The golden shapes add a touch of luxury to the design. Pay close attention to how effortlessly and seamlessly the designers have managed to merge such bold colors as lime and turquoise, resulting in a truly fantastic outcome.

Identity and packaging design for Folks patisserie

Museum Identity by Kristina Hristova

This project is undoubtedly one of a kind, with a distinctively peculiar artistic quality that perfectly suits the museum theme. It wouldn’t be out of place among the installations of a modern art gallery.

Each element catches the eye with its intricate design, featuring thoughtful layering and color combinations that, at times, evoke a scrapbook style, albeit with modern twists and a restrained use of layers. This project’s distinctive and unconventional approach sets it apart from the crowd.

Museum Identity

Taipei Songshan Airport Visual Identity by Seikyo Jo & I-Mor Liao

This project is simply outstanding, drawing inspiration from the airport terminal design and traditional Chinese window lattice to create a visually striking visual identity.

The design features sharp angles and rectangles that convey a techy and business-like vibe. The color scheme, derived from the airport terminal design, enhances the overall aesthetics.

Taipei Songshan Airport - Visual Identity

Thousand The Boutique by Cansu Merdamert

Cansu Merdamert has tackled one of the most challenging yet stunning color combinations out there, guided by the client’s goal of cultivating an atmosphere of luxury living and the spirit of London.

The design’s use of green, yellow, and red exudes luxury without coming across as too flashy. The smooth shapes in the design also add a friendly and inviting touch, striking a balance between aesthetics and the business-oriented aspect of the project.

Thousand The Boutique

CiDOWN Brand Identity by John Dias

John Dias’ project is truly amazing! The use of bright colors, with purple taking center stage, combined with geometric shapes, creates a playful and positive vibe that skillfully captures the brand’s essence.

The shapes may seem childlike, but they add a touch of charm to the design. The duotone photography, featuring beautiful shades of yellow and green, blends perfectly with the overall design and immediately captures the viewer’s attention. The design not only sets the tone for the company but also conveys a message that’s bold and attention-grabbing.

CiDOWN Brand Identity

Academy Brand Identity Design by Baianat

Unlike the previous examples with sleek aesthetics, this designer’s brand identity concept looks sharp – literally and figuratively.

The design features colorful polygons that come together to create striking visuals, and the typography with acute letterforms completes the ensemble. The project is aimed at youth and easily resonates with Generation Z, thanks to its daring appearance.

Academy Brand Identity Design

LFD Indentity by Atelier Irradié

Similar to the previous example, LFD’s brand identity also features sharp angles and irregular polygons that overlap each other, resulting in an intricate and layered design.

However, this time, the color scheme is less daring than Academy’s. On the contrary, the colors complement each other perfectly, creating a harmonious and balanced design. The beautiful patchwork design, reminiscent of leather, effortlessly portrays the fashion industry that inspired this project.

Sharing Horizons Debrecen 2023

Circles take center stage in this visual identity, with geometric shapes serving as a dynamic and symbolic element in the design.

The bright colors create a striking visual impact. Using horizontally split layouts identifies the horizon and enhances the overall idea. And the beautiful photography add a personal touch that makes the concept relatable to people.

Geometry & Colorful Shapes

Each trend has advantages and disadvantages, but both can effectively draw and maintain the user’s focus on the brand identity, resulting in magnificent designs that border on artwork.

Using bright color schemes in tandem with a geometric shapes doesn’t necessarily produce an overly ornate outcome, instead, the shapes, especially circles, soften the impact generated by the vibrancy of the colors.

While each trend has distinct qualities, they become a powerful force when used together.

10 Beautiful Minimal & Name-Centric Business Cards https://speckyboy.com/minimal-name-centric-business-cards/ https://speckyboy.com/minimal-name-centric-business-cards/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 21:35:53 +0000 https://speckyboy.com/?p=111913 We have an inspirational collection of minimal business cards that are centered around names, creating an attention-grabbing business card.

Sometimes all you need is a name. It is a powerful thing. It always has a meaning and, even more, it has a subtext and undertone. A name can speak for itself. It can elicit trust in potential clients and quickly establish the proper atmosphere.

As a rule, this name is the one associated with a company, and it lies at the heart of the brand and serves as a source of inspiration when it comes to creating a visual identity.

So it is not surprising that instead of using modern features, detailed illustrations, or creative typography, designers prefer to build their branding around their name, using it as a primary detail of the composition. Yes, it can be tricky since you need to turn this minimal approach to your advantage. It requires imagination and skill. But when done right, it can lead to a fantastic outcome.

To demonstrate this, we have compiled a collection of business cards centered around a name. There are a number of excellent examples that give you hints as to how to create a name-based card that looks stylish and memorable.

Nymbl

Nymbl opens our collection with its modest, yet marvelous design. Here, every detail counts. The creative team wants to convey a forward-thinking, experimental nature, along with a playful mood, tech appeal, and of course, personality.

It may seem impossible at first, but they have certainly nailed it. Every detail contributes to this mission – including the gorgeous purple color, luxurious paper material, and bold, intricate letterforms.

Nymbl

BY Studio

BY Studio is a classic example of a minimal business card that has just one word on the front side. It wins over potential clients with its stately and authoritative look. The latter is obtained by three main factors: classy black-and-white coloring, a fantastic letterpress effect and high-quality paper.

BY Studio

Elena Demireva

Elena is an interior designer who knows how to use color combinations to create the perfect mood. The front side of the piece features a small color card and the name, which is all it takes to convey Elena’s creative personality, showcase her expertise, and pique the interest of onlookers.

Soul Scapes

The color black and a holographic surface always form a potent combination. The business card of Soul Scapes looks incredibly sophisticated. While the flashy front side catches the eye with its mesmerizing appearance and stylish “makeup,” the clean black back side radiates a businesslike appeal.

Soul Scapes

Voyager / Frajda

If the holographic canvas is not an option, then you can always try some offbeat abstract designs used as a background. A – Bradley, who stands behind Voyager, along with Magdalena Marchocka, the designer of Frajda, show us how to achieve this.

Each one features only a nameplate on the front side. However, this is enough since the canvases are the main visual driving force. They make the business cards look not just artistic, but also creative and individual. While the first example feels more techy and cold, the second one feels warm and authentic.

Voyager

Frajda

Hey

Another way to make the most out of a canvas is to adopt an old-school gradient. Consider Hey’s business card. It is marked by a truly garish gradient that won’t leave anyone indifferent. It just draws the attention right away. The author even offers several options that nicely cooperate and complement each other – fitting the theme perfectly. Although the black typography requires a bit more contrast, nevertheless it is still readable and pretty perceptible.

Hey

Craft.chic Travel Agency

Craft.chic Travel Agency also relies on a gradient to make an impression. However, this time the gradient is less varied and more organized. It is deep, hot and sophisticated. This card looks exceptional. The name of the company is all you need here; everything else is done by the beautiful background.

Craft.chic Travel Agency

Now, let’s shift our attention from the background to typography, since the latter is a popular tool for enriching minimal designs. It saves the day when it comes to business cards. Consider these prime examples.

Tidepool

Tidepool has customized typography where each symbol is hand-crafted. The idea of connecting the dots lies at the core of the concept. Each character has small solid circles. They form a hidden message. Also, note beautiful blue coloring and subtle canvas that perfectly complete the design.

Tidepool

Stefan Mader

This artist uses just a standard sans serif typeface. However, here it looks great. The front side of the business card reads only “hallo.” and is set in a relatively big size so that it strikes an eye right away. The black-and-white coloring, paired with a generous amount of white space, not only favorably highlights the greeting but also makes the design feel fresh, crisp, businesslike and of course appealing.

Stefan Mader

Carlos Bauer

Much like in the previous example, Carlos Bauer leverages a regular typeface – nothing fancy at all. However, there is a small twist that gives the business card a touch of personality. The artist has broken the word into symbols, made the letter-spacing as big as possible and excluded vowels – leaving them to your imagination. As a result, the name forms the aesthetic here, adding its unique zest.

Getting Down to Business

Name-centric business cards can be lifesavers for those who prefer to get straight to business with their brand identity. Covering only the essentials, they are able to reach the audience and convey the required message without much hassle.

And thanks to some smart features and creative ideas that are used to save them from looking primitive and ordinary, they awaken curiosity and leave a long-lasting impression.

When we think of resume design, “usability” typically isn’t one of the first things to spring to mind. An art director seeking a new position might create an 8-point typographic masterpiece that, while beautiful as a design, is not the best read of information.

A developer may hammer out an exhaustive, experience-documenting, 4-page all-serif Word doc. While the ultimate opportunity you’re targeting should organically shape the design and information contained in your resume, clarity, quick-scannability, and definitive information hierarchy are vital.

As someone who’s received copious amounts of CVs in my various positions, the above examples are often not that far off reality.

Theme-designed” resumes (by that, I mean designs in which the resume layout in and of itself is intended as a showcase of your creative brand), while often visually and typographically stunning, can suffer from having key information not readily apparent on a visual scan basis.

This can be a trade-off, but whichever approach you feel suits you best, there are some tactics you can employ in any scenario to ensure your information provides an easier read.

The Art of Scannability

A usability best practice in the online space is reserving a specific color for clickable items (buttons, text links, etc.) so it’s immediately visually apparent I can take action upon them. We can leverage that broad concept – color usage as a visual cue – in a resume.

Example of a standard Resume/CV

Consider the CV of Jet Greyhound above. He’s using blue and orange to not only form visual cohesion with the pseudoroom design site (Jet is a big fan), but also as scannable, categorical devices.

Viewing this example, blue directly pertains to Jet and the roles he’s held, so we scan:

  • jet greyhound
  • Creative Director
  • Associate Creative Director
  • Art Director
  • Senior Designer
  • BFA, course of study

Orange is used to denote locations and general subheads, and we scan:

  • experience
    • Agency Four
    • Agency Three
    • Agency Two
    • Agency One
  • education
    • University of Awesome
  • skills

Make the Sought After Into the Readily Apparent

Next, let’s discuss hierarchy. Immediately within the top 20% of the design is a quick-hit global impression of who Jet is and what he offers. (1) Name, portfolio URL, and contact information. An elevator pitch of a few brief sentences noting (2) education, influences, and capabilities.

Usabilty of a resume

With education already tipped off, we can proceed directly into the next tier of the hierarchy an employer is looking for: what is Jet’s experience, and how does it relate to the position to which he’s applying?

Leveraging a timeline design is an immediate visual cue for how this information is segmented. A succinct description of each role is utilized in this example, but consider bullet points instead for even greater scannability.

Money, it’s Gotta be the Shoes

Wrapping up with a skills section provides a “keyword”-type benefit, again facilitating a quick-scan global view of capabilities. Referencing a “more information” URL immediately to the left of skills qualifies that if the potential employer would like to dig a bit deeper to that effect, the means to do so is directly present.

In particular, with that LinkedIn URL, Jet can keep the resume clean and recent to his most current (and relevant) roles. If the CV reader wants an exhaustive account of his career, recommendations, and a complete skill set listing, they clearly have that ability.

From a resume submission perspective, having a fully completed, detailed LinkedIn profile (that you can provide a link to) is absolutely imperative to qualify your “full story.” Your LinkedIn profile is your backup. LinkedIn is the Scottie Pippen to your resume Michael Jordan. Ok, I’ll stop.

These methods of making your CV more usable to a potential employer are conducive to any type of design; this layout is merely an example.

However, by ensuring your resume is an immediately scannable, hierarchical read, you’re making it far easier amongst a deluge of submissions to be noted for what a colossal badass you truly are.

They tell you not to judge a book by its cover or a fish by its scales. Usually, they’re trying to get you to reserve judgment, despite something or someone’s poor appearance. Even so, the package a product comes in does have a substantial impact on sales.

Sure, you could wrap a great product up in paper and twine, but you know it won’t sell as well. That’s why many hours of work and lots of creativity go into great packaging.

Packaging design is one of the most critical aspects of product marketing and the marketing mix for physical goods. When consumers go to a supermarket or a store, they don’t see an innovative product or a tasty food item. What they see is the packaging. The majority of buying decisions are made in front of the shelf.

An attractive, unique yet practical packaging design is a critical competitive advantage for manufacturers and retailers. A creative package will more often than not be the driving force of an item, and that’s what this gallery is all about.
